Reflections of Glass on Water
November, 2008 - April, 2009
McKee Botanical Garden is proud to host internationally renowned artist Hans Godo Fräbel’s Glass Art collection. The exhibition, entitled “Fräbel’s Reflections of Glass on Water”, will run from November, 2008 through April, 2009. Stunning crystal glass sculptures – 170 in all – will be creatively displayed within McKee Botanical Garden’s lush setting, with special emphasis on integrating the Garden ponds and waterways.
Hans Godo Fräbel is one of the world’s most famous flamework glass artists. His works represent a fusion of art and nature. Fräbel’s art pieces can be found in public and private collections in over 80 countries worldwide. Museums that have hosted Fräbel art include the Smithsonian Institution, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Eibu Museum of Art to name a few.
The Fräbel Glass Art Studio (www.Fräbel.com) was founded in 1968 by Hans Godo Fräbel and is widely considered to be the first glass art studio completely focused on designing glass art sculptures from boron crystal.
The Cube, a spectacular 15’ x 15’ sculpture and one of Frabel’s most recognized works, will be on display in McKee’s main pond. The balance of the collection will be artistically placed indoors and outdoors throughout the Garden, including the waterways. All exhibit pieces will be available for purchase, including ten one-of-a-kind glass water lilies designed exclusively for McKee Botanical Garden.
“This is the most significant exhibit in the history of McKee Botanical Garden,” says Executive Director Christine Hobart. “The opportunity to collaborate with such a prestigious artist brings McKee to the forefront as a cultural destination.”
Opening Night, scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, will be an exclusive dinner including a preview of the exhibit and live glass blowing demonstration.
At the conclusion of the six-month exhibition, Hans Godo Fräbel will select a piece from his collection to remain on permanent display at McKee Botanical Garden.
Fräbel’s Reflections of Glass on Water is presented by Dace and King Stubbs.
