Described below are a few of the volunteer opportunities that are currently available.

If you are interested in volunteering, please call the McKee office to set up an appointment to discuss your interests and/or complete the attached volunteer application. GARDEN GUIDE

Duties: This position is for individuals who enjoy meeting the public and requires a commitment for taking visitors through the Garden at prearranged times throughout the week. Guide must be familiar with the Garden history, horticulture and successfully complete our Garden Guide Training course with annual refresher courses.

Qualifications: Must be available 40 hours/year.

Training: One day Garden Guide training course required. Plus 4 additional hours of continuing education training required annually.

Dress : Garden uniform required. Comfortable shoes suggested and name tag must be worn at all times.

Hours: Varied.

GREETER

Duties: Individuals in this position must enjoy meeting and speaking with the public. Duties include but are not limited to: greeting guests, answering visitor questions and giving directions.

Qualifications: General training session required.

Dress: Garden uniform required. Comfortable shoes suggested and name tag must be worn.

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday shifts are from 9:30am-1:00pm and from 1:00pm-5:00pm

GIFT SHOP

Duties : Volunteers in the gift shop sell merchandise, inventory stock, price and display items.

Qualifications : Willingness to perform a variety of tasks, interact with the public and answer questions.

Training : General orientation and specialized training is also required.

Dress : Garden uniform required.

Hours : Minimum of a 4 hour time commitment per week. Hours are usually morning or afternoon shifts.

GROUNDS VOLUNTEER

Duties: Grounds volunteers get to help take care of the Garden and the plants in it.  Most work is in the Garden, Greenhouse or Nursery.  Tasks include watering, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, potting, clearing, planting and algae control. 

Qualifications: Willingness to work in outdoor setting, ability to take directions and share garden knowledge, and good observation skills.

Work Conditions: Outdoors, can be hot, dirty work.   Volunteers are asked to bring their own pruners, water bottle, gloves, hat and sun block. 

Dress: Clothing appropriate to working conditions. Sturdy shoes, gloves, hat and sun block as needed may be provided by the volunteer.

Hours: Work shifts are 9:00am 12 Noon Monday through Friday.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEER

Duties: Assist with upkeep and maintenance of buildings and site.

Qualifications: Willingness to work in outdoor setting, ability to take directions and share knowledge, and good observation skills.

Work Conditions: Outdoors, can be hot, physical work.

Dress: Clothing appropriate to working conditions. Sturdy shoes, gloves, hat and sun block as needed may be provided by the volunteer.
